Organization Insights – New Look, New Location

Okay, so this tripped me up a little while ago. I kept looking at that ‘old’ Organization Insights dashboard and didn’t realize that a new version in a new location has been released. The old one is being retired.

Previously you would access the Org Insights as a dashboard from within your CRM instance. As shown below.

Now you get to it via the Power Platform administration area – https://admin.powerplatform.microsoft.com Once you get there you will find OrgInsights under the Analytics left navbar link, then select Common Data Service for Apps. If you don’t see the data you expect to see then look for the Filter button in the upper left hand corner of the screen to select the correct instance.

A few things to note about the Admin Center Approach:

The biggest shift in Admin Center is that upgrades and features have absolutely no impact on your environment. There is nothing installed or modified in your org instance.
The authorization model is slightly different and evolving than before. OrgInsights is available to 9.x tenant and environment admins, but only 8.x tenant admins. That should/could change in the future.
Even though it is in Preview, issues should be reported as bugs. The Admin Center has a strong release cadence (~ weekly) and usually the Dynamics 365 Product Team will fix bugs pretty quickly.

One big upside is that there is a lot more analytical info available through the Power Platform site. You can easily filter by date range and download the data to a CSV file.

It is in preview mode right now, so it may not always behave as it should.
