It is week 4 in the review of the CRM Field Guide chapters from the book – The CRM Field Guide – How to CRM Like an MVP with Microsoft Dynamics CRM. This week it is the 12 page Upgrading from CRM 4.0 to CRM 2011 chapter
I will be the first to agree that at 12 pages this is not a detailed deep dive into the upgrade process from CRM 4 to CRM 2011. There are a lot of factors that can enter into how much effort this takes and the scope of the discovery and upgrade process. However, this chapter does provide an excellent overview and a pretty good outline with some helpful tips.
The chapter reviews the hardware and software requirements. And other tactical items.
Where this chapter does excel is in guiding the reader through the steps in developing an upgrade plan. This information and the accompanying insight is once again another standalone justification for purchasing the book. It offers up several good, real world tips on User Training on the new CRM application.
One of the technical tips I really liked that I hadn’t thought of using prior to the reading this chapter was the use of the CRM Deployment Job Editor. Running this tool will give you quick insight into whether the deletion service is actually deleting records and the last time it successfully ran. If it hasn’t run or run recently records marked for deletion aren’t being deleted. You will need to run a script to get them deleted.
